What is it?!
PopUpBahamas is the brainchild of award winning Chef Simeon Hall; it is an uber secret event that happens maybe twice a year at a secret location around the island of New Providence. Essentially it is a pop up restaurant! #PopUpBahamas introduces you to the underground food movement; it allows you to feast on locally grown ingredients cooked with love to produce authentic Bahamian and international dishes.
The most recent event, Carne y Vino was a meat & wine lovers paradise. It was one of those events where you just had to be there to experience the atmosphere, the people, the food and the overall happiness!
The evening started with a simple shuttle to a secret location, never to be disclosed. Shrouded in secrecy, we all hopped on a bus and headed up a street to a beautiful island styled home. As soon as we got off of the bus, we were greeted and ushered in for our first bite of the night!
Yummy beef sliders, Caprese-like treats and the dirtiest martinis I have ever tasted in life!
The night progressed with an interactive cooking segment, where guests were turned into chefs! Armed with aprons, we threw beef and lots of shrimp on the iron grills provided. While the night was predominately for the meat lovers, there were dishes like smoked salmon, seafood salad, fresh salad roasted cauliflower, broccoli, sweet potato and the most delicious corn I have ever had in my life!
One of my many favorites of the night was this throwback to every Bahamian’s childhood! Watermelon 🍉🍉 CUP! As it’s name suggests, it’s a cup! A frozen beverage loved around The Islands of The Bahamas!
Could you imagine 50 grown men and women slurping and chowing down on a cup of flavored ice? Like the night’s motto said, ‘What happen at Pop Up Bahamas, stays in Pop Up Bahamas!”
But, seriously, I have never been to a restaurant or an event where I have honestly told the chef to stop feeding me; to stop bringing plates out. This was the general sentiment at #PopUpBahamas. Too much food, too much wine, too much of a good time!
