Let’s get into this week’s show.
Can I just say, Insecure is too real? Have you ever watched a show, and looked around like, who is spying on my life? Insecure has found true success in my opinion because it mirrors our experiences as no other show has before. Episode 7, Obsessed-Like, took me all the way back to a time when f boys reigned supreme in my life, much like Issa.
Obsessing and stressing was the name of the game. Obsessed-Like perfectly encapsulates what happens when women get ghosted or go through breakups. We see Issa’s battle of trying to get to the bottom of Nathan’s disappearance. She stalks his Instagram, she posts sexy pictures to see if it would get his attention, she checks her phone every single moment and begins to neglect herself and responsibilities. But, honestly, where the hell is Nathan. Common courtesy would’ve at the very least been to call and say I’m out! Nothing hurts more than someone ghosting you.
We’ll get back to Issa for a minute. Let’s chat about Molly.
Molly finally decides to give Asian bae an opportunity and the two have lunch together. I absolutely loved their chemistry and Asian’ bae’s man bun. Molly truly looked happy and I thought we may have found life after Dro, but their second date proved to be a disaster when bae and Molly start to hash out all of their Coachella conversations that took place. The conversation began lightheartedly but quickly turned into a war zone that started with Molly saying she remembers bae telling her he kissed his boy’s girlfriend with bae throwing the “you slept with your married friend” as a response. It was went left real quick as Molly was butthurt. What annoyed me with Molly is she refuses to take responsibility for her actions. Like bae say, ‘grime recognizes grime’ and Molly refuses to admit she was grimy. Unfortunately, looking at herself in the mirror that bae held up was a bit too much and she stormed out of the dinner. Is there any reconciliation in the future? Maybe?
Back to Issa. The girl is a certified nut job, as most women are during this phase. After stalking Nathan’s Instagram she snaps and decides to recruit Molly for a IRL stalking position. The two set off to visit Nathan’s house – he lives with Asian bae. The two drive to Burbank and literally bulldoze their way inside the man’s home. Molly tries to help Issa by acting as if she was trying to make peace for the other night at dinner. Issa strategically finds herself in Nathan’s room looking for clues about his disappearance, truthfully I’m unsure of what she is looking for. It’s hilarious though, she even tries to break into Nathan’s computer, until Molly catches her and drags her out of the house. Men, let it be known, this is how YOU have us out here looking. Crazy! Couldn’t she have just asked his friend where the hell he was?
So what next? Issa reaches the point where she knows it’s time to let go. She deletes Nathan off of Instagram, erases his number and snaps back to reality and begins to work on her business plan and her block party. She attends an entrepreneurial workshop, which we later find out is Lawrence’s idea. The two meet up after her workshop, where she thanks him for putting her on and the two chat a bit before Issa invites him for coffee. At coffee, the two catch up with Issa divulging how hard life has been but she’s decided to not allow other people to prop her up, but instead stand on her own two feet. Our Issa has grown all the way up! So proud of her. Lawrence, in turn, admits to Issa that he’s decided to go to church! I wonder if the claps made him do it? When things are not going well in life, we alll head to church. Trust me, I KNOW! The church scene was awesome, I loved it. Except when the hussy Deniece tried to roll up on Issa’s Lawrence. It’s safe to say, Lawrence didn’t particularly find the church a right fit for him, and Issa gave him great advice, find something that works for you.
So, listen. I loved this week’s episode, it was as always perfectly written, true to life and the actors brought these characters to life, BUT how the heck is there only one more episode? Do we need a GoFund Me campaign for more episodes? Who do we need to speak to about this? Over it. The season is by far too short! Next week is the season finale and I’m excited. Are they going to finally address Nathan’s disappearance? Is Lawrence and Issa going to have a moment? We’ll see. I’ll be watching next week at the Insecure block party hosted by HBO & REV! If you’re in Nassau (Bahamas) September 30 and a REV subscriber, join us Marlborough Square 5-11 p.m.! You have to RSVP, so, let’s do this!
